LANCASTER, Calif. – Teams and sidelines erupted after Sunday’s victories. Winners were crowned US Youth Soccer Region IV Champions and have earned a berth to the US Youth Soccer National Championships July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass., at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park.

Each team competing in today’s final matches at the Region IV Championships walked onto the field with their game face on, but only one team walked away with the victory and the title of champion. Take a look at how the teams battled it out…

Under-12 Girls
Arsenal FC (CA-S) Under-12 Girls kicked off today’s game with a 9th minute Stacie Moran goal against Mustang Fury (CA-N). Fury’s Hailey Balma posted a 48th minute goal for the 1-1 tie, which sent the game into overtime. Mayra PelayoBernal broke the tie in the 65th for Arsenal. The 2-1 score remained for Arsenal to capture their first Region IV Championship title.

Under-12 Boys
The Under-12 Boys championship match brought together Cal North’s Redwood Juventus CRS and Cal South’s Legends FC. Collin Hossum and Alejandro Vergara gave Legends the early 2-0 lead with goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes. In the 33rd minute, Omar Hermosillo netted one for Legends and Redwood’s Benjamin Hiltbrand Consoli hit one in the 40th. Hermosillo finished of the 4-1 victory in the 44th.

Under-13 Girls
One of three West Coast FC (CA-S) teams playing in the championship round, the Under-13 Girls, faced the defending Region IV Champions, Mustang Fury (CA-N). West Coast took an early lead in the 3rd minute thanks to Isabella Guerry, then extended it with another Guerry goal. West Coast won 2-0.

Under-13 Boys
After capturing the 2008 regional title, West Coast FC (CA-S) Under-13 Boys were looking to slate a second regional championship and that’s just what the did. Paired with Santa Clara Sporting (CA-N) in the championship match, West Coast’s Matthew Anderson put up their first goal in the 30th minute. Trevor Hyman completed another in the 72nd minute to solidify West Coast as back-to-back Region IV Champions.

Under-14 Girls
Looking for back-to-back regional championships, the Under-14 Girls So Cal Blues put up an early 8th minute goal by Amber Munerlyn against Mustang Fury (CA-N). The game was tied 1-1 after Fury’s Reilly Parker netted a 27th minute shot. Neither team was able to finish before the end of regulation play, sending it into overtime and eventually PKs. The Blast topped the Blues 4-3 in PKs for the Region IV Championship title and to punch their ticket to the National Championships.

Under-14 Boys
Alejandro Perez set West Coast FC (CA-S) up with the early lead after a 4th minute goal against SC del sol 95 White (AZ). SC del sol’s Lenardo Rico found the equalizer in the 45th minute, which eventually sent the game into overtime. Gage Zerboni secured the West Coast 3-1 win with shots in the 86th and 89th minutes.

Under-15 Girls
So Cal Blues Under-15 Girls were off to a good start in today’s game against Sereno 94 White (AZ) thanks to a 25th minute goal from Nikki Fedele and a 40th minute goal from Mackenzie Akins. After the half, Sereno’s Cadianne Naquin put one on the board in the 50th minute for a 2-1 score. The Blues solidified the 3-1 win to advance to Nationals thanks to Danielle Weatherholt’s 75th minute goal.

Under-15 Boys
Working to defend their Region IV Championship title, Arsenal FC (CA-S) put up a fight and held off Sereno 94 White (AZ)until the 74th minute when Sereno’s Cole Nagy put one past the keeper. Arsenal was unable to finish, giving Sereno the 1-0 victory.

Under-16 Girls
The Under-16 Girls So Cal Blues and Deanza Force Blue (CA-N) game started out with a 5th minute Blues goal by Lauren Bohaboy. Deanza’s Alesha Blair countered in the 25th and for the tie, and the Blues regained the lead in the 35th minute with an Amanda Dudley goal. The Blues won the game 2-1, but they punched their ticket to the National Championships earlier in the year by taking the second place seat in the US Youth Soccer National League. This allows Deanza Force to advance and represent Region IV in the National Championships.

Under-16 Boys
Elite FC Gladiators (NM) and Arsenal FC (CA-S) Under-16 Boys both faced tough match ups in semifinals and knew that today’s meeting would be no different. Arsenal opened the game with an 11th minute, Luis Fuentes goal and Gladiators’ Kevin Birchmeyer countered in the 16th minute. Gladiators took the 3-1 lead with a Ryan Hinsen 26th minute goal and Birchmeyer’s second in the 37th minute. Arsenal’s momentum changed after Nzeogwu Iwekaoguwa’s 39th and 50th minute goals. Fuentes nailed his second of the game in the 55th for the 3-1 win.

Under-17 Girls
The Under-17 Girls Crossfire Premier (WA) took an early lead over Real So Cal with an 8th minute Annelise Sittauer goal. Emily Hurd scored in the 48th and 81st minutes for Crossfire. Real couldn’t get one past the keeper and Crossfire won 2-0.

Under-17 Boys
Cal South’s CZ Elite Under-17 Boys were on a mission to conquer and advance to the National Championships in today’s match up with another Cal South team, United FC. Eder Arreola’s hat trick and Michael Shaddock’s 43rd minute goal wrapped up CZ Elite’s 4-0 win over United.

Under-18 Girls
In one of many age groups that had a Cal North team facing a Cal South team, today’s Under-18 Girls age group brought together the north’s Pleasanton Rage and the south’s So Cal Blues. The Blues’ defense held off Pleasanton’s offense until the 43rd minute when Madelyn Payne shot one past the keeper and Ahsha Smith followed suit in the 54th minute. Olivia Klei added another Pleasanton goal in the 76th minute and Payne chipped in her second in the 87th minute for the 4-0 victory over the Blues.

Under-18 Boys
The Under-18 Boys game between WSM Internationals (OR) and Sereno White (AZ), started off with a 9th minute WSM goal by Erik Hertado. Dillon Tufty extended WSM’s lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute. Sereno fought back with a goal by Benjamin Raymond in the 62nd minute, but it wasn’t enough and WSM won 2-1 for the Region IV Championship title.

Under-19 Girls
There was one defending National Champion in the mix this week, CO Rush Nike Under-19 Girls (pictured on front). This is their last year to compete at the youth level and many have already played at the collegiate level. Going into today’s game, they had their eye on the prize and with three early goals, they secured their win over Avalanche Premier (UT). Emmalie Pfankuch completed a hat trick with goals in the 6th, 16th and 17th minutes for the Rush win. Now their sights are set on capturing a second US Youth Soccer National Championship title in the last year of their youth career.

Under-19 Boys
DMS 11 (CA-S) Under-19 Boys held control of the game against Colorado Rush Nike. Austin Mandel gave DMS the 2-0 lead with goal in the 35th and 61st minutes, but Steven Emory tied the game for Rush with late goals in the 76th and 80th minute sending the game into overtime. The teams played tough defense, but it was Rush who managed to put one away in the 114th minute to secure the 3-1 win and a chance to compete in the National Championships for the most prized trophy, the McGuire Cup.
