SoCal Team Of The Month shines brightly
Here is the Players To Watch Team of the Month in July for the Southern California region.
Remember, this feature is to honor top performers in their region over the past month or so and across the span of age groups. There will be a boys' list and a girls' list, and a new region will be covered every weekday, Tuesday through Friday of each month. You can submit nominations at teamofthemonth@topdrawersoccer.com.
Following is the Boys List, in no particular order.
Dylan Smith, Fullerton Rangers 96 White, U14, Forward - One of the leading goal scorers in the under 14 age group of US Youth National Championships, scoring three goals in four games including the 11th minute game winner in Fullerton's 1-0 Championship game victory over Chicago Magic.
Ricardo Ruiz, Fullerton Rangers 96 White, U14, Winger - The forward netted three goals in four games at US Youth Nationals including 2 in the team’s 4-0 preliminary game against the Dallas Texans. Ruiz's strong offensive showing was rewarded with the tournaments under 14 Golden Ball Award.
Ariel Lassiter, Albion White, U16, Forward - Lead his team to a strong second place finish in the under 16 age group at the US Youth National Championships. Lassiter was also the age groups recipient of the Golden Boot Award.
Sebastian Velasquez and Mario Rodriguez, LA Galaxy, U16 Academy, Forwards - Fresh off a USSF Development Academy U-16 Championship at Finals week, the duo each netted a goal in the Galaxy's 2-0 victory to capture the U17 championship at the Generation Adidas Cup.
Javan Torre, LA Galaxy, U16 Academy, Defender - Torre’s consistently solid play anchored the Galaxy’s defense and earned him a spot on the Development Academy Starting XI and powered the team through a dominant showing, and eventual championship at Finals Week.
Andy Tenas Albeno, AVSC Ambush, U15, Forward - The forwards’ two goal performance in the US Youth Presidents Cup Championship game earned his team the title with a 6-1 victory over Next Level Soccer Academy (NJ).
Leobardo Bahena and Gustavo Chavez, Corona Eagles, U14 - The duo each had a goal in their teams 2-0 victory over SB Select 96/97 Club Mexico, earning the Eagles the U14 US Youth National Presidents Cup title.
Jose Villareal, Pateadores U17/18 Academy, Forward - Had a stand-out, 2-goal, performance in the championship match of the U17/18 Development Academy Finals Week. His goal in the 81st minute won the Pateadores the championship crown over a respectable FC Dallas side. Villareal was named the ussoccer.com Man of the Match in the championship game.
Juan Cervantes, Pateadores U17/18 Academy, Keeper - The goalie had an impressive showing in the championship match of the U17/18 Development Academy Finals Week. Cervantes allowed 3 goals in the 4 game tournament and posted two shutouts.
Following is the Girls List, in no particular order:
Stephanie Hamilton and Allie Bailey San Diego Surf, U17, Forward - The pair connected for a late header goal in the U17 ECNL National Championship game against PDA charge earned their Surf team the U17 ECNL National Championship crown.
Kate Perry, San Diego Surf, U17, Midfielder - The Texas A&M commit showed consistently well for her Surf team with dynamic play in the midfield throughout the entire the U17 ECNL National Championship tournament.
Danielle Tilton, United Futbol Club – White, U14, Forward - Her goal in the 44th minute of the championship match of the US Youth National Presidents Cup was the game winner and earned United Futbol Club the trophy.
MacKenzie Cerda Slammers FC, U15, Forward - Cerda scored both goals for Slammers FC in a 2-1 win in the Region IV championship match against SoCal Blues, including the game winner with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Sammie Solaru, Slammers FC, U15, Forward - Solaru was responsible for both goals Slammers FC netted in their two tie, one loss showing at the U15 US Youth National Championships.
Kayla Mills, Slammers FC, U16, Forward - Mills put forth an impressive performance in her teams 1-2 Semifinal loss at the ECNL National Championships in Denver. Her unmatched speed and crafty skill earned her and the Slammers an early goal in the game.
Angelina Meriwether, Arsenal FC, U14, Forward - Meriwether had a goal and two assists over a six minute span in Arsenal FC’s 3-0 Region IV Championship game victory over Leahi 97 Premier.
Madison Krauser and Jen Stanley, SoCal Blues, U17 - After a scoreless first half in the US Youth Region IV championship match, the duo each netted a goal earning the Blues a 2-0 victory over Rio Vista FC, and Region IV title.
