Southern Soccer Showcase Day 2 Recaps
ADVANCE, N.C. – The weather finally became a non-factor for the second day of the Mercedes Benz Southern Soccer Showcase.
While temperatures at the start of Sunday’s final day were frigid – in the low 30s for the day’s first matches – by mid-afternoon they had climbed to a balmy 60 degrees.
As for winds, where constant 15-20 mph gusts affected play Saturday, there was little to none on Sunday at the BB&T Soccer Park.
Ohio Galaxies FC 99 Premiere Black 4, Knoxville Football Club Crossfire 0: Premiere Black finally got their offense going in winning their first match of the showcase’s U16 Blue division on Sunday.
Goals by Sofia Castonguay and Allie Wasson put Premiere Black up 2-0 midway through the first half, and Saylor Jewell added an insurance score midway through the second half.
Jewell had a second score called back because of a questionable offsides call, but Crossfire made up for it a few minutes later with an own goal.
Premiere Black finished the Showcase with a 1-0-1 record, while Crossfire went 0-3-0.
D1BSC Bayside Inc. U16 Girls Premiere 3, Liberty Soccer Academy 99 Elite Blue 2: D1BSC Bayside won their first match in the Showcase’s U16 Silver division on Sunday behind two goals from guest player Hannah Stevenson.
Stevenson, a forward, had put Bayside in the lead early in the first half, but Elite Blue struck back to tie the match at 1-1 on Nyla Nwainokpor’s goal a few minutes later.
Late in the half, Elite Blue scored to take a 2-1 halftime lead when Rylee Bays punched in a corner kick that was misplayed by Bayside goalkeeper Emily DePersio.
However, Stevenson’s second goal of the match, coming on a breakaway early in the second half, tied the score at 2-2. Rylie Thomas’ goal a few minutes later put Bayside in the lead to stay.
DIBSC Bayside finished the Showcase with a 1-2-0 record, while Elite Blue went 0-3-0.
Greensboro United SA 00 GUSA Navy G 3, Knoxville Football Club Crush 01 United 0: After getting shut out in their opening game Saturday, Greensboro United turned the tables in Sunday’s U15 White division closer.
Greensboro United went up 2-0 in the first half on goals from Tatum Neff and Payton Creed, and got an insurance goal late in the second half from Gracie Mayer.
Claire Marion got the shutout in goal for Greensboro United, who finished the Showcase with a 1-1-0 record. The Crush 01 United closed with an 0-3-0 record, getting shut out in all three matches.
NEFC Central United U16 Girls 3, FKK 99/00 Florida Krush White 0: NEFC Central United closed out an undefeated run through the U16 White division by shutting out Florida Krush White on Sunday.
Sydney Carney scored twice in the first half to stake NEFC Central United to a 2-0 halftime lead, and Erin O’Reilly added an insurance score midway through the second half.
