Spirit bring in USYNT mid for preseason
Washington Spirit announced their preseason training roster on Tuesday, which included one surprising name among the 38 players. Solar SC standout and one of the top players from the class of 2023 Jaedyn Shaw was listed as a non-roster invitee, which is the designation given to players typically training with the club in order to earn a professional contract during the preseason.
Shaw is a commit to North Carolina for the 2023 class and rated as the top midfielder in the country for that class - as well as the top player from Texas. She has been a part of the U.S. Youth National Team program. Shaw played for FC Dallas at the Development Academy level and played for Solar Soccer Club for the past few seasons at the DA and ECNL level.
Shaw is not the only former U.S. Youth National Team member in preseason camp. Emerson Layne, from Real Colorado, is a non-roster invitee for San Diego Wave, the new expansion team, during the preseason. Layne was a 2021 high school graduate who was committed to TCU, but she never appeared on the roster for the program. She was eligible for the 2021 NWSL draft, but she was not selected. She is looking to earn a spot on the roster for the Wave in their inaugural season.
