TDS Combines New York: Best XI Girls

The TDS New York Combine featured over 100 of the region’s top players. College coaches and scouts evaluated players during technical sessions, small-sided games, and full field games under the direction of New York Cosmos Assistant Coach Alecko Eskandarian.

Girls in the Best XI came from top clubs like PDA, Penn Fusion, Albertson SC, and Dix Hills SC.

Elizabeth Hill – PDA – Goalkeeper (2015) – Excellent work ethic and positioning. Good coming off her line to close attackers down. Good distribution out of the back, and can make the big saves to keep her team in games.

Jaylyn Thompson – Penn Fusion – Defender (2016) – Thompson is an extremely confident defender who is comfortable on the ball. Communication out of the back is loud and direct, which is a very good sign from a young defender. Technical player with a great first touch. Athletic and demands the ball out of the buildup. Uses her body well and makes smart decisions on the ball. Plays at a very good speed of play and possesses elite D1 potential. Has featured for the U14 GNT, and will probably be a mainstay at future camps with Youth National Teams.

Caitlin Cosme – Albertson SC – Defender (2017) – The #5 2017 girl in the country displayed her great first touch and soccer brain at the TDS New York Combine. Cosme is a very solid all around soccer player who is good in the tackle as well as on the ball. Was called into the latest U14 GNT camp in Portland, and she really showed why she is considered by many to be the best 2017 defender in the country.

Emily Sands – Penn Fusion – Defender (2016) – Solid defender. Very good technically and athletically. Covers her mark well, and can get forward and join the attack when needed. Currently ranked as the 11th best 2016 in Pennsylvania.

Katie Paz – Island Trees High School – Defender (2016) - Very relaxed under pressure for an outside back. Confident two-way player that always takes her first touch forward at speed. Great potential for the next level as an attack minded right back.  

Emily Strouphauer – Lonestar SC – Midfielder (2016) – The U15 GNT Midfielder flew out from Texas and made a huge statement in New York. Strouphauer has a fantastic work rate, and has top-notch vision to pick out teammates. Really excelled during the full field games where she was able to display her creativity and superb technique. Very dangerous player on the ball.

Kerri Clark – HBC – Midfielder (2014) – Clark has very good pace and is not afraid to take players on. Good 1 v 1 attacker and plays like a natural winger.

Lauren Azzolino – NJ Crush FC – Midfielder (2017) – Currently ranked as the 11th best player in New Jersey for her age group, Azzolino is very aggressive and brings excellent energy throughout the game. Communicates frequently, and has solid technique.

Hope Breslin – Albertson SC – Forward (2017) – Lauded as one of the best overall soccer players at the Combine, Breslin showed her fantastic instincts on the day. Dribbles with confidence and links up well in the final third with teammates. Strikes a good ball and has a great first touch, her decision-making was spot on throughout the Combine. Breslin is currently the 2nd best 2017 girl in New York, and appears to have a very bright future ahead o fher.

Kayla Arestivo – Dix Hills SC – Forward (2016) – Arestivo is ranked as the 19th best forward in the country for her age group and is technically very gifted. Has experience playing with the U14 GNT, and makes extremely good runs off the ball. Good decision maker on the ball, and has legitimate D1 potential according to scouts and coaches in attendance.

Erin Gilroy – East Meadow SC– Forward (2016) – Gilroy is very deadly in front of goal, and scored numerous goals on the day. Good first touch and sets up teammates well in final third. A player with great fitness and a great level of comfort dribbling at defenders.
