Texans win title at U.S. Youth National League

Texans win title at U.S. Youth National League
March 19, 2011

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (March 18, 2011)
– The US Youth Soccer National League Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys and Girls resumed league play today at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex in Las Vegas, alongside the 2011 Player’s Soccer Showcase. Each age group is represented by four of the League’s eight teams.

This is the final weekend of National League play. When standings are finalized on Sunday, March 20, champions will be crowned, the top team from each age group and top two from the Under-15 Girls will advance to the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championship.

FC Dallas Premier (N-TX) is still in command of the Under-15 Boys Blue division with a perfect record after taking down CUP Crew Juniors Gold (OH-S) 4-1. Antonio Aguilar put FC Dallas ahead in just the 5th minute and Kellen Reid doubled it in the 38th. Thor Beckdahl put CUP Crew back in the game with his goal just before the break, but Grant Norris scored in the 50th for the Texas side and Aguilar grabbed his brace in stoppage time. Olney Rangers sit in first place after finishing with a 6-1 record, but that loss was to FC Dallas who still has two games to play.

Scottsdale 96 Blackhawks (AZ) are also still in the hunt for the U-15 Boys Blue league title as they defeated Penn Fusion 95 (E-PA) 3-1. Alexis De La Rosa grabbed the lead for the Blackhawks in the 24th, but Harrison Roche leveled for Penn Fusion right at halftime. Grant Lillard regained the Blackhawk advantage in the 69th and Brian Booker sealed the game with a goal in the 77th. The Blackhawks currently sit in third place, but if they can win out they could have the advantage in goal differential to take over the top spot and earn a berth to the National Championships.

The Michigan Jaguars jumped U-15 Boys Red leaders Classics Eagles Red (OH-S) into first place with a 3-1 victory over SDFC 09 Gauchos (NJ). Randy Casallas scored in the opening minute for the Gauchos, but Griffin Parks evened the game in the 2nd minute and Nathan McLean gave the Jaguars the lead in the 36th before Jason Carmack put it away with his goal three minutes after the restart. Thanks to a Classics draw today, Jaguars now control their destiny for the championship.

Previously controlling their destiny in the U-15 Boys Red was Classics Eagles (OH-S), but they couldn’t find an advantage against Charlotte SA Predator (NC) and ended in a 0-0 tie. The draw temporarily puts Classics into second place, but they will play SDFC 09 Gauchos (NJ) tomorrow before facing the Michigan Jaguars for a potential championship match on Sunday.

Albion White (CA-S) need one win in their final two games to clinch the Under-16 Boys Blue division after a dominating 5-0 win over Minnesota Thunder Academy 95. Ariel Lassiter scored the first of his two goals to open the scoring in the 6th minute. Raul Martinez added another seven minutes later and Lassiter’s 49th minute double, Patrick Barba and Dominic Chavez finished things out. Two draws would also lift Albion into the top spot as they currently hold the advantage in goal differential over Everest Black (OH-N) and Lake Grove United (NY-E).

Dallas Texans Red (N-TX) finished their season in Weston, Fla. last month, but today were named U-17 Boys Red champions as Grand Rapids Crew Juniors (MI) scored a 90th minute goal to level 1-1 with Rush Nike Argonauts (NM), ending Rush’s chances to overtake the Texans. Charles Klepac put Rush ahead in the 8th minute, and that goal stood until Crew’s Jason Stacy used the wind advantage to curl a corner kick into the goal in the final seconds to finish the game 1-1 and hand the Texans the title.

So Cal Blues Draluck (CA-S) stayed alive in the chase to catch the Dallas Texans 95 Red (N-TX) in the Under-16 Girls Blue with a narrow 1-0 victory over Cleveland FC (OH-N). Ana Cruz scored the winner in the 68th and So Cal will now claim the league title over the Texans with wins in their last two games thanks to tie breaker advantages.

Legends Breakaway (CA-S) had a one game cushion coming into this weekend in order to force a makeup game with current U-16 Girls Red leader Hurricane FC 95 (OK), and they used it on the opening day as Legends drew 0-0 with Penn Fusion 94 (E-PA). The match between Legends and Hurricane was postponed last December due to snow and will only be replayed if needed. With Hurricane finishing a perfect 6-0, Legends now need to win their final two games to force the replay with Hurricane.

National League action continues Saturday, March 19 at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex with games starting at 11 a.m. PST.
