Top 100 stud makes long awaited decision
September 21, 2011
Around this time last year, Scott Thomsen had quite a bit on his plate. The New York Red Bulls midfielder was fielding interest from programs in the Big Ten, Big East and ACC alike. Thomsen made college visits to Georgetown and Virginia then made time to lead his Development Academy club to the playoffs.
He finished as one of the team’s premier facilitators and was second in goals scored for the Red Bulls.
And now, Thomsen – our No. 76 ranked player in the 2012 Top 100 - has also put a cap on his recruiting process by committing to Virginia for the 2012 season.
“I chose Virginia because I felt very comfortable with the coaching staff right from the beginning and fell in love with the campus and facilities on my unofficial visit,” Thomsen said. “I feel like Virginia is the best place for me to take my game to the next level.”
Thomsen’s game has been honed through years of hard work. He spent time in U.S. National Team camp on more than one occasion – surely helping his development.
Thomsen is a strong and athletic midfielder who can also play at wing. He is accurate with his crosses and shots and thinks that’s a skill that will translate well in college.
“I think I'll be able to use my good technical ability, vision, and range of passes,” Thomsen said. “Hopefully, I can make a good impact in the college game.”
