Top 100s, rising stars fill big commit list
August 24, 2011
We’ve got a bonkers list of boys’ commitments today that includes some of our top ranked prospects.
We start with Chicago Fire’s Louis Bennett who selected local program Marquette for the 2013 season. Bennett is No. 40 in his Top 100 class and made his commitment look as easy as his defender-splitting soccer.
“It was a pretty easy decision, Bennett said. “I grew up in Milwaukee and I really like the community and the campus location. Marquette is a very good program and I felt it was the right time to make my decision.”
Bennett is just one of four Top 100 standouts to make recent commitment news.
Juan Cervantes
Joining him is Pateadores SC defender Oscar Sorto, who is ranked No. 60 in the 2012 Top 100 class and has verbally committed to Cal State Bakersfield. Alan Harwell (Birmingham United SA) is No. 82 in the 2012 Top 100 and is verbally committed to NC State. Harwell is a talented attacker who led his Development Academy squad in goal-scoring a season ago.
Then there’s Juan Cervantes (Pateadores SC), who is the No. 97 ranked 2012 player and just verbally committed to UCLA.
Cervantes was also intrigued by other California programs like Cal State Northridge, San Diego State and UC Irvine before going with the Bruins.
“I want to be pushed and challenged and graduate from a great school,” Cervantes said. “UCLA is such a prestigious school academically and athletically. The decision was one that I could not deny.”
