TULSA, Oklahoma — Thursday’s third day at the US Youth Soccer National Championships here did not begin auspiciously. Buffeted by lightning early in the morning, the tournament was delayed three hours, and teams walked out to largely soggy fields.
Despite a second lightning delay later in the afternoon, the final round of group matches mostly went off without a hitch once the players finally hit the fields. In that sense, the knockout fields - and in some cases, the title matches - have been locked in place for this weekend.
