U14 GNT heads to camp in Chula Vista
The U.S. Under-14 Girls’ National Team will gather from May 26-June 2 for a training camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
U-14 GNT head coach April Kater has called up 36 players, 27 born in 2004 and eight born in 2005 and one in 2006. The first U-14 GNT training camp of this year was last February in Norco, Calif., and featured 48 players.
In the U.S. Girls’ and Women’s National Team development path, players born in an odd year, which are the age-cut-off years for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, follow the path of U-15 (2 years), U-17 (2 years) and U-19 (2 years). Players born in even years, which are the age-cut-off years for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, follow the path of U-14 (1 year), U-16 (2 years), U-18 (2 years) and U-20 (2 years).
As this is an even year, the U-14s (2004s) have programming after not having any camps last year. In the odd calendar and odd birth years, as was the case in 2017, U-14 aged players were absorbed into the U-15 GNT programming.
The 36 players come from 27 different youth clubs with multiple players coming from the San Jose Earthquakes (4), Beach FC (3) out of Southern California, MVLA (2) out of Northern California, NTH Tophat (2) out of Georgia, and the San Diego Surf (2) and Real So Cal (2) out of Southern California.
