U14s take their shot at US camp in Carson, Calif.
May 8, 2009
The US U14 Boys National Team Camp has been training all week under the watchful eye of coach Manny Schellscheidt.
The group includes players who took part in January’s eight-day training camp in Guadalajara, Mexico, including Michael Gray, Devonte Small, Kellyn Acosta, Kevin Labastida, Scott Levene and Dylan Greenberg, to name a few.
The U14s enjoyed their second round of scrimmages Wednesday night, taking a 2-0 defeat to Aztec and winning a 4-1 match against the U15 L.A. Rampage.
Strong performances included Zachary Pfeffer, a midfielder with good size and instincts. Pfeffer, of Yardley Makefield Soccer, recorded an assist during action against the Rampage.
Paul Arriola was also good as a striker who runs with the ball well. A product of the Chula Vista Rangers, Arriola is dangerous and active around the goal.
Michael Chang, of Sockers FC, also shined in the midfield with his aggressiveness and quick feet. PA Classics midfielder Russell Canouse also made a big impact on the field with his versatility.
The U14 team will wrap up the camp when it plays its final set of scrimmages Friday night.
