U17 MNT roster for tournament in Argentina
U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach John Hackworth has named a 20-player roster for the team’s first international tournament since the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship. From June 1-9, the USA will make its way to Buenos Aires and Rosario, Argentina for the 2017 International Festival.
The camp marks the second international tournament for the player pool (birth year 2000 or later) since Hackworth named 20 players for the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, where the USA fell to Mexico 5-4 on penalty kicks in the final. During the camp, the USA will face Uruguay’s U-17 Men’s National Team and Argentine First Division youth clubs Rosario Central and Newells Old Boys. The first two games are set to be played at Newell’s Bella Vista, with the third kicking off at CARC Ciudad Deportiva.
Of the 20 players brought into camp by Hackworth, 17 have registered at least one season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Out of the group of players, six have registered four seasons in the Academy: Chris Gloster, Matthew Hundley, Jaylin Lindsey, Alejandro Pereira, Tyler Shaver and Adrian Villegas.
The camp is targeted to aid in preparation for the 2017 U-17 World Cup in India. The U.S. will find out what three teams they will be drawn with on July 7, when the official U-17 World Cup Draw is held at the Hotel Sahara Star, in Mumbai. The FIFA U-17 World Cup is set to take place from Oct. 6-28 across six cities in India: Kochi, Goa, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata.
