U18 WNT heads to Chula Vista
The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team will hold its second training camp of the year from April 10-17 at The Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs has called up 24 players for the training camp, with 18 born in 1996, which is the age cut-off year for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, so the majority of the players in this camp are focused on that Women’s World Cup.
Heinrichs has also called in six players born in 1995, including three players – defender Madeline Bauer, midfielder Lauren Kaskie and forward Margaret Purce – who played for the USA at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan. Players born on or after Jan. 1, 1994, are eligible for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, so the group of U.S. players that attempt to qualify for that tournament will be primarily from that birth year, but the top 1995s and perhaps a few 1996s may also be in the mix.
