SC del Sol are the new U19 Girls Academy champions, completing a legendary undefeated season of 22 wins and two draws. Two first-half goals were all the team needed to defeat Lou Fusz 2-0.
The match started as most did in the playoffs for SC del Sol, with Arizona commit Jessica Bedolla leading the charge with an early goal. This one came on a feed from Caroline Boeckman, finding the star striker in the 18, who would turn her two defenders and fire into the back of the net.
Minutes later, Bedolla had a second, this time cleverly spinning her defender from a long Melania Valdez throw-in and converting a rebound after her initial attempt was saved. A two-goal deficit that early in the match would have snowballed into more against most teams, but Lou Fusz did well to show their championship mettle and fight back through the 90 minutes.
The Missouri-based squad would have found a way back into the game if not for the impressive center-back duo of Morgan Bilczewski and Carlie Diaz, with Jenni Groves in goal to repel the few attempts that reached the target.
Both teams will now see their stars take on the collegiate games at institutions such as Utah, Arizona, Grand Canyon, and Saint Louis.
Final MVP: Jessica Bedolla
