U20 WNT takes young roster to Honduras
The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team will travel to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, from Sept. 19-25 for a training camp that will serve as excellent preparation for the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship, which will send three teams to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papau New Guinea.
The CONCACAF qualifying tournament is scheduled for December 3-13 in San Pedro Sula and this trip will give the young Americans a feel for the environment, playing conditions and facilities prior to that event.
On this rare trip to Central America for a female U.S. Youth National Team, head coach Michelle French has named 24 players. The camp will also include a match against the Honduras U-20 Women’s National Team on Sept. 23.
As the women’s college season is well underway, the roster heading to Honduras is made up entirely of pre-college youth club players from four different birth years ranging from 1997-2000. The age cut-off for this group is players born on or after Jan. 1, 1996.
