US Club id2 camp: Chula Vista closes
CHULA VISTA, California — The final day of any camp always carries with it the burden of responsibility. There is one last gasp chance to impress, but it has to be done on the heaviest of legs. At this point its about the players who can use their brain as much as their technique to maximize their talents, even after the legs have failed them.
Here is a look at the final two games of the Chula Vista id2 Camp.
Game 1
Team 3 (GREEN): Andres Labate, Brogan Townsend, Leo Alvarez, Wasi Odegaard, Daniel Rocha Mendez, Marco Millan, Emmet Bowler, Evan Schoer, Cameron Orr, Grady Easton, Donovan Praslin, Gonzalo Solorio
Team 4 (YELLOW): Brandon Stoliar, Cole Fontenelle, Ryan Rasmussen, Abraham Covarrubias, Dominic Vega, Chase Marion, Vincent Fucetola, Isaac Torres, Ernie Aguilera, Owen Mears, Caden Long, Romario Quintero, Andres Labate (Switched teams 15 minutes in)
GKs (Rotate Teams): Carlos Leon, Maclean Learned, Ashton Murga, Nate Kim, Joseph Diaz Sarabia
Team 4 took control early and never looked back as Chase Marion fired in a free kick from right at the top of the box to give the men in yellow an early advantage.
Ernie Aguilera put Yellow in cruise control when he drifted inside from the wing and neatly collected a flighted. The diminutive winger (playing up a year) fired his first shot right at the keeper, but passed in the rebound.
Team 4 thought they had a third as Andres Labate (playing in his preferred position up top) was sent clean through on goal. Goalkeeper Ashton Murga came off his line and made a stellar save to give Team 3 a lifeline.
Labate was told to switch teams and he provided the third goal for Team 3. The recent convert blew by his defender and got to the by-line before pulling the ball back for a striker to smash the ball into the net.
Team 3 tightened things up at the back and grew into the game as Gonzalo Solorio and Marco Milan started to dominate the midfield. Their ability to combine with one another opened up the game as Green became stronger going forward.
Persistence paid off as Milan restored hope for the men in green. The center midfielder received the ball about 25 yards from goal and engineered a half-yard of space before unleashing a rocket that was too hot for the keeper to handle.
Green continued to press forward but some wayward finishing and near misses meant Yellow held on for the two goal victory.
Game 2
Team 1 (GREEN)
Adam Saldana, Antino Lopez Cameron Dunbar, Aldair Sanchez, Kevin Carmichael, Luis Raul Toledo, Maximus Dattoli, Bryson Hankins, Jovani Casillas, Chase Marion, Vincent Fucetola, Hayden Sargis
Team 2 (YELLOW): Luis F Rivera Valles, Erik Centeno, David Montes, Aaron Edwards, Felipe Medina, Hunter Hanes, Mario Penagos, Maximilian Goeggel, Evan Davila, Dominic Vega, Ryan Rasmussen, , Isaac Torres, Kevin Welch
GKs (Rotate Teams): Carlos Leon, Maclean Learned, Ashton Murga, Nate Kim, Joseph Diaz Sarabia
Team 1 started the game with such high pressure that the only time the ball went into its defensive half inside the first 15 minutes was when the ball was being swung around the back while runs were recycled. The first 15 minutes also came with four of five first half corner kicks.
Team 2 weathered the storm, however, and settled into the game, creating the better of the chances. The yellow team was rewarded for its perseverance by showing those in green how to score from a corner.
The ball was flighted in from the left and Mario Penagos rose highest to give yellow the lead.
The second half was much more evenly played and the score-line soon reflected it as Cameron Dunbar. The winger stole into the channel between the outside and center-back to get on the end of a telling through ball from Marion. Dunbar didn’t seem to mind the two defenders baring down on him as he cooly took a touch, picked his up, and picked out the far corner with a well placed finish.
In the end, 1-1 was a fair result for a match between two teams stacked with the weekend’s best performers.
