US Club Soccer id2 matches: Day 2
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Last chance? Try only chance. The weekend’s id2 Program Training Camp for girls born in 1999 and 2000 had just one chance to showcase their abilities in a match environment. The two girls matches of the entire weekend were played on Saturday at Grande Sports World.
Since the boys played in scrimmages Friday, the two matches played Saturday were held to 30- and 23-minute halves. Each of the teams, boys and girls, were rearranged. The teams will be rearranged again on Sunday morning, the last day of the camp, for two matches of 35-minute halves.
We focused on the girls’ matches on Saturday.
Saturday’s girls team rosters are below:

Green starters (4-2-3-1): GK Drost; LB Ilela, LCB Cowart, RCB Villegas, RB Hill; LDM Kunz, RDM Sefcik, LAM Andreini, CAM Hussen; RAM Lozano; CF Antoine.
The yellow team’s high pressure, suffocation game plan worked from the opening whistle. Even tough Denae Antoine recorded the first shot on goal, which was saved, for the Green, it was Yellow that registered the only goal of the game. Beams was the player with the most influence in the first half. She tackled the ball away deep into enemy territory but her ensuing shot was saved. She did make a big impact on the lone goal scored, though. After Cameron Drost sent a goal kick straight to Beams, she didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Drost saved the attempt but parried it right to a streaking Hubbard, who was at the right place at the right time to score on the rebound.
Green’s attack went through Loren Sefcik, who started as a defensive midfielder before switching to a more attack-minded role, for much of the match. But while she showed some good control on the ball, her passes forward were just a little off. Meanwhile, yellow’s back line of Bianca Stubler, Janae Lee, Delaney Watson and Cameron Brooks seemed like it had played together since they were born, when, in fact, they were asking each other’s names before the match starterd
Beams had a chance to double the score early in the second half when she earned a free kick from 22 yards away, but her following free kick attempt was saved. Yellow’s Bryanna Duckett also had a great game in the middle of the field. Green had a spell of possession in the middle of the second half as Denae Antoine found the ball more. But after she went out due to injury in the 50th minute, yellow again took control of possession.
Bianca Stubler could have scored yellow’s second goal but after settling a great far post cross from Julianna Abrams, Stubler couldn’t score past Drost 1v1. Cassidy Lindley also could have scored, twice. Her looping shot from 20 yards out was saved by Drost’s fingertips and a shot with three minutes to play flew just high.
GAME 2
Yellow 3, Green 2
Yellow roster: Jordan Girman, Kayla Eason, Anna Lawler, Kai Henderson, Courtney Sebazco, Celina Alvarez, Alexandra Augulis, Tess Boade, Cahley Copley, Sophia Serafin, Sydney Dawson, Abby Gardiner, Morgan Smocovich, Laurel Ivory.

Green roster: Reina Bonta, Diane Senkowski, Maya Nielan, Jadah Suarez, Cameron Bell, Alexis Loera, Meredith Haakenson, Mia Root, Rachel Jones, Taylor Gosselin, Kylie Fisher, Rachel Dorwart, Ally Jackson, Juliet Allen.
Green starters (4-3-3): GK Allen; LB Bonta, LCB Senkowski, RCB Nielan, RB Suarez; LM Bell, CM Loera, RM Haakenson; LF Root, RF Jones, CF Gosselin.
It took a half, a position change and a couple of midfield changes for Sophia Serafin to find her rhythm in the match. That combination of events helped Serafin score a hat trick with all three goals in the second half to lead the yellow team come back from a 2-0 half time defecit.
Serafin switched to right forward in the second half from her center forward spot. Abby Gardiner was introduced into the center of the midfield and Kai Henderson was pushed from right back to central attacking midfield. With those changes complete, Serafin was able to do what she does best. Make runs into space and finish. She scored all three of her goals that way in the 39th, 49th and 60th minute of the match.
The yellow team had much of the possession in the first half but still found itself down 2-0 at halftime. In the 28th minute, green scored its first goal when Mia Root’s perfectly weighted pass sent substitute Ally Jackson through for an easy goal. Green scored again three minutes later after Rachel Jones, who was a menace up top all match, earned a free kick from 19 yards away. Alexis Loera scored on the free kick, squeezing the ball between the yellow team’s wall. The shot deflected off a yellow team player, catching Lauren Ivory wrong-footed and hitting the back of the net.
The yellow team, though, continued its dominance of possession in the second half and was able to finally finish its chances. It could have scored even more but Serafin’s shot from 15 yards out was saved up close and Alexis Augulis’ half-volley rocket went straight to Juliet Allen.
