US Soccer combines U20/U18, U17/U15 camps
The U.S. Women’s Youth National Teams are doubling up.
Beginning next week, four teams will combine to form two camps bringing together a host of youth talent.
The U17 and U15 teams will convene Jan. 28-Feb. 5 in Sunrise, Florida. National head coach Kaz Tambi will be overseeing the U17s while Women’s National Staff coach Mike Dickey will be in charge of the U15s.
The combined camps will provide an interesting dynamic as players will get to face off against players of different skill and maturity levels. The camps are the beginning of the process for the U20 Women’s World Cup in 2010 and the 2010 FIFA U17 World Cup in Trinidad Tobago.
Among those who will be present in Chula Vista, will be Kristen Mewis, who was awarded the Girls Youth Player of the Year award Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri. Midfielder Amber Brooks, winner of the Girls Scholar Athlete of the Year, will join, along with forwards Vicki DiMartino and Courtney Verloo - two cogs for the US team that took second at the U17 World Cup in New Zealand in 2008.
Defender Morgan Brian has been called to the U17/15 camp as the youngest player on the squad and will be joined by midfielders Kaili Torres and Haley Washburn, and forwards Mariana Galvan, Cate Parchinski and Taylor Smith.
