U.S. U15 BNT forward signs with Sporting KC
Fresh off a star performance at the CONCACAF Under-15 Championship, Gianluca Busio has signed a homegrown contract with Sporting KC, the club announced on Friday.
Busio scored five goals in last week's CONCACAF championship, playing in all five games for the U.S. Under-15 BNT.
"Gianluca is a very talented player who has the opportunity to progress along our professional pathway from the Academy to the first team," Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said in a statement. "He fits our style of play, has great vision on the field and can score goals from several different positions. As Gianluca continues to develop, the structure of our club will allow him to take steps toward his objective of playing at the top level for Sporting KC in the future."
The attacking force joined Sporting KC's Academy in 2016, after emerging on the U.S. youth national team radar at North Carolina Fusion. He scored nine goals in 17 appearances for Sporting KC's Under-16 side during the 2016-17 Development Academy season. The 15-year-old was named to the Central Conference U16 Best XI Team by the U.S. Soccer Federation.
The No. 2 ranked player in the 2020 Boys IMG Academy Top 150, he's earned a handful of call-ups to the U.S. U15 BNT this year, including the Torneo Delle Nazioni back in April.
"This is a dream come true, and I could not be more grateful," Busio said in a statement. "Since I was a kid, I always dreamed of being a professional soccer player, so I want to thank Peter Vermes and the Sporting Kansas City organization for giving me this opportunity. From the day I arrived in Kansas City, they have made me feel like part of the family."
