U.S. U17 MNT roster named for tourney
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team will head to France to take part in the 44th International Montaigu Tournament set to take place from March 18-29.
U-17 MNT head coach John Hackworth will be with the U-23 MNT for Olympic Qualifying. Therefore, U-16 BNT Shaun Tsakiris will coach the U-17s while in France and has named a 20-player roster to take abroad.
The roster is entirely made up of all players born in 2000. Seven players are affiliated with MLS club teams, while 11 players are a part of the Development Academy. Four players – Jean-Julian Foe Nuphaus, Justin Garces, Niccolo Lemoine and Timothy Weah – were not part of the previous U-17 trip to Izmir, Turkey for the 2016 Aegean Cup. This will be the first call-up for Weah in 2016; the other three take part of the 2016 Spring Semester Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida.
The team last competed in this tournament back in 2012, when the U.S. defeated Mexico 1-0 to finish in fifth place.
