US Youth Nationals: U13 Girls Preview
Four US Youth Soccer Regional Champions make up the field in the 13U Girls age group at the US Youth Soccer National Championships. Each of the teams in this age group had periods of dominance at their respective Regional Championship, but all four sides also overcame difficult tests to earn a trip to Frisco, Texas. SDFC Yellow (NJ) and San Diego Surf (CA-S) each faced deficits in their Regional finals, while Sporting BV (KS) produced a narrow win to claim the Region II title. In Region III, Lonestar 04 Red (TX-S) started with a one-goal win in a wild opening game and finished with a tight victory over an opponent that had dominated its way to the final. While each team is a newcomer to Nationals, the experience gained on the journey to this point has prepared them well for a run at the National Championship.
Region I: SDFC Yellow (NJ)
How they got to Nationals
After winning the Region I Championship as a 12U side in 2016, SDFC Yellow (NJ) defended its title in 2017 to earn its way to the National Championships. After a draw to start its tournament, SDFC produced an offensive outburst to win Group A before recording a shutout win in its semifinal. The New Jersey side then overcame an early two-goal deficit in the Region I final with three unanswered goals in a 3-2 victory.
