We look at the best in Midwest
Life is good for David Selvaggi.
His Sockers FC squad, ranked No. 1 in our U18 Academy Boys TeamRank, is a perfect 5-0 and Selvaggi has a team-leading three goals.
The No. 4 ranked player in our Top 20 Midwest Region, Selvaggi is heading to DePaul next season, and don’t think for a second he isn’t enjoying his last year of club soccer.
“This season is more laid back because last year so many people focused on being recruited by colleges,” Selvaggi said. “We made it to the National Finals a year ago and I definitely think we can make it again. I want to help my team compete for the national title.”
Selvaggi will do so with his creative attacking, which he models after the great Lionel Messi.
Sitting atop our Midwest Top 20 lists this month are: David Caban (2011), Drew Conner (2012), Michael Chang (2013), Cesar Alba (2014), Mukwelle Akale (2015) and Luke Haakenson (2016).
On the girls’ side we have: Olivia Schultz (2011), Katie Naughton (2012), Zoe Swift (2013) and Lucy Edwards (2014).
