Williams Names Roster for final U17 camp
U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Richie Williams has called 24 players for a training camp in Mexico City, where the team will play two preparation matches against Mexico in its final action ahead of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
The U-17’s will face off with Mexico on Wednesday, Sept. 23, and Friday, Sept. 25.
The team is coming off of back-to-back trips to Europe. In August, the U-17 MNT participated in the Vaclav Jezek Tournament in the Czech Republic, going 1-1-2, drawing 1-1 with both Slovenia and Slovakia, and closing out with a 2-1 win against Ukraine. Earlier this month, the U-17’s took second at the 2015 Limoges Tournament in France, where they tied France 0-0, and defeated Australia 6-0.
The team is now less than a month away from the World Cup in Chile, where it has been drawn into Group A with Nigeria, Croatia and Chile. The USA kicks off the tournament’s opening match on Oct. 17 against Nigeria at 4 p.m. ET.
Twenty-two players on the roster have ties to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
