Williams names U17 MNT residency roster
U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Richie Williams has named the 28-player roster for the 2013 fall semester of the U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla.
The fall semester of the Residency Program is the U-17 MNT’s first step in this qualifying cycle as it prepares for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
All 28 players arrived in Florida on Saturday, Aug. 31, and began training on Monday, Sept. 2. The roster includes 25 players who have ties to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
Midfielder Brian Zelaya of De Anza Force was named to the U-15/16 West Conference Starting XI for the 2012-13 season as both the U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams for the San Jose-area club advanced to the 2012-13 Development Academy Finals Week in Houston. Forward Christian Pulisic of PA Classics was named to the U-15/16 East Conference Starting XI after leading his team with 15 goals during the 2012-13 season.
Twelve players among this group represented the U-15 Boys’ National Team at the recent Copa Mexico de Naciones. The USA capped off the tournament with a thrilling shootout victory against Paraguay in the third-place match on Aug. 18.
