#1 Rangers Take Down Mavericks 4-1
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.: Nationally ranked #1 Regis University men's soccer improved their record to 13-0-1 overall and 11-0 overall after defeating unranked Colorado Mesa University 4-1. Four separate Rangers put a goal in on the day, while the Ranger's defense allowed only seven shots to the Mavericks.
Mesa scored first in the seventh minute, a lead they would not keep for more than five minutes, however, as the Rangers evened the score early in the 12th minute.
Junior Justin Ortinau sent the first goal in for Regis off a free kick from just outside the 18 yard box.
Regis took the lead three minutes later when sophomore Martin Maybin sent a shot toward the goal that came back out. Senior Stephen Reed picked up the opportunity to find an opening toward the left side of the Maverick goal.
The Rangers put one more through to close out the first half up 3-1. Ortinau gained possession of the ball and passed in to Maybin. The forward put his 12th goal of the season through the left side of the net.
The last goal of the match would happen for the Rangers five minutes into the second half by the foot of junior Garrett Seitz for his first goal of the season.
The defender received the pass from Maybin and sent the ball through to the right side leaving the score 4-1 at the end of the match.
Maybin finished the match with one goal and two assists, while Ortinau also put in one goal and one assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi tallied three saves in 90:00 minutes between the posts.
The Rangers will host their last home match on Tuesday, October 23 at 3:00 PM against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers.
