110th-Minute Goal Downs SJSU

Boise, Idaho --- The San José State women's soccer team has now been on both sides of a double-overtime golden goal in the early goings of the 2016 season.
UC Irvine's Kelsey Texeira put the Spartans on the wrong side of it Friday, 2-1, with a header in the 110th minute in Boise, Idaho.
The Anteaters lined up for a corner kick with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match. Reema Bzeih's kick sailed across the box and straight to the head of Texeira, who headed it into the back of the net.
"I'm very proud of the team for the way we played," said San José State head coach Lauren Hanson. "We just came out on the short end today. Sometimes you just have to take care of the little things in big moments. But, overall I thought we played really good soccer."
The Spartans (1-1-1) and Sabrina Miller struck first in the 23rd minute. The ball ricocheted to her feet after a huge throw-in from the left sideline by Carley McBeath, and Miller flipped it over her right shoulder for the first goal of her career.
San José State remained aggressive with its 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of regulation. But in the 88th minute Noel Baham slipped behind a Spartan defender with the ball, and scored the first goal of the year on Spartans' keeper Paige Simoneau.
The shot fired high inside the near post knotted the match up, 1-1, where the score remained for two minutes until the end of regulation.
The Spartans had a handful of chances throughout both of the overtime periods where they outshot UC Irvine (3-0-0), 5-2. Dorthe Hoppius fired a shot from straight on right outside the box, but UCI keeper Maddie Newsom used a fingertip to push the ball above the crossbar.
The shot column was nearly even between the teams with 12 for the Spartans and 11 for the Anteaters. Both squads put three shots on goal. UC Irvine had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

"At this point, we're moving on to Sunday," Hanson said. "We will head into that match having learned a lot of things from this third match of the season."
San José State takes on Seattle University on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. (PT). The match will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
