#12 Regis Rangers Outscores University of Sioux Falls Cougars
The Rangers men's soccer team competed against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars today at 10:00 AM at the Regis Match Pitch in Denver. The Sioux Falls team came to Regis with an overall record of 0-3-0.
In the 21st minute of the game, forward Kyle Emge took a shot at the goal that was saved by the goalie. The ball popped over the goalkeeper towards the goal, in position for Emge to head it towards the right side of the goal for the first goal of the game.
Midfielder Stephen Reed geared up for a free kick off a Sioux Falls foul from 35 yards out in 38th minute. He placed the ball in the upper left corner of the goal untouched by defenders or the goalkeep. Reed gained possession again in the 56th minute. From past the 18 yard box, he ripped it towards the back of the net for the third goal of the game.
Reed commented that "the team played well and worked hard for opportunities. We let up at the end, but played well."
For the Ranger's fourth goal, a corner kick from midfielder Justin Ortinau was passed to midfielder Dom Pacheco. Pacheco crossed to Reed, who passed to forward Martin Maybin. Maybin finished off the play with a goal.
The Cougars remained scoreless for the first half of the game, but had some opportunities they took advantage of in the second half. In the 67th minute of play, Sioux Falls had a corner kick brought in by Amare Eyayou. Connor Shefte received the header to score the teams first goal of the game.
The second goal came from Matt Wolfe unassisted. He dribbled from the middle to the goal and put the ball in to the left of the Ranger goalkeeper.
Goalie Chris Couperus received the win on the day allowing only two goals. The Rangers kept the Cougars to only three shots on goal.
Head coach Tony McCall said "Going 3-0, you have to be happy with the result. The performance was concerning with creating the opportunities we are and not getting goals on the board." He went on to say "the bigger concern would be not getting the opportunities. We have to be more clinical and sharper around the goal." He finished by saying "overall, we have to be happy with the win."
The Rangers will play Colorado Christian University on Friday, September 16th at 2:00 PM. The game will take place in Denver at the Regis Match Pitch.
