12th-ranked Mountain Lions claw Patriots 3-0
YOUNG HARRIS, GA – Ilija Ilic assisted on a first-half goal and scored a second-half tally to help lead 12th-ranked Young Harris College to a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.
The Patriots drop to 5-2-3 overall and 3-2-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions improve to 9-1-0 and 4-0-0. Francis Marion will return home to entertain Newberry College on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on Hartzler Field.
Young Harris outshot Francis Marion 19-12 and held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
FMU freshman goalkeeper Nick Stover registered four saves, while Pedro Ozi made six stops for the Mountain Lions.
The Patriots came out aggressively, forcing Ozi to make three saves in the opening 25 minutes.
Ilic assisted on Lewis Hilton’s goal in the 37th minute to give Young Harris a 1-0 advantage. Khurram Shazad doubled the margin to 2-0 in the 79th minute, before Ilic scored the final tally with 51 seconds remaining.
Sophomore Tore Loevaas led FMU with three shots, two of which were on frame.
