SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - No. 16Santa Clara (2-0-0) topped UC Santa Barbara (1-1-1) 2-1 on Friday night inSanta Barbara. The Broncos outshot the Gauchos 13-9 en route to their second victory of the season.

Lauren Matheson opened the scoring when midfielder Julie Johnston assisted her goal in the 11th minute. The goal was Matheson's first of the season and seventh for her career.

Just after the second half started, in the 47th minute, Lindsay Gankema scored the Gauchos' first goal to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was assisted by Erica Shelton.

With regulation almost over, Matheson scored her second goal of the match. The game-winner was scored in the 89th minute and assisted by Sara Jackson.

 The Broncos return to the field on Sun., Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. against Cal Poly (1-1-0) inSan Luis Obispo,Calif.
