#16 Warhawks Defeat Augustana 3-0
Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) made five saves en route to UW-W's fifth shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Augustana Wednesday night in Rock Island, Illinois. The Warhawks, ranked sixteenth in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III National Poll, are now 4-1-1 and have only given up one goal all season.
UW-W took the lead in the twelfth minute of the match when Michael Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) found Sam Novak (Milton/Milton) who slipped the ball past Augustana goalkeeper Tyler Cowherd.
The reminder of the first half was silent on the scoreboard but Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) put the Warhawks up 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.
With the clock winding down Novak tallied his second goal in the game, and of the season, off of a pass from Alex Szarzynski (Greenfield/South Milwaukee) in the 88th minute. Novak, a freshman midfielder, has two assists to go along with his two goals so far this season.
Mikesell has earned four of UW-W's shutouts this season and he combined with Josh Rohde (Waukesha/Waukesha West) for the fifth. Mikesell continues to climb the charts in the UW-W record book. He is now fourth in career shutouts (13) and first in save percentage (.861). This season alone Mikesell boasts a save percentage of .966 and a goals against average of 0.17.
The Warhawks will play again on September 26 when they travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin for a match with Carroll University at 7:30 pm. UW-W's next home game is October 4 when they open up Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a match against UW-Platteville at Fiskum Field beginning at 7 pm.
