October 5, 2018
NEWTON, Mass. – The 17th-ranked NC State men’s soccer team endured a 1-0 defeat to Boston College Friday evening at Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field.
Sophomore goalkeeper Leon Krapf made six saves during the match for the Wolfpack (6-3-2, 1-3-1 ACC) but Boston College’s leading scorer Simon Enstrom scored his seventh goal of the season in the 61st minute to propel the Eagles (3-3-3, 2-3-0 ACC) to the victory.
The teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes. NC State held a majority of the possession, but Boston College was able to register five total shots. Krapf was tested multiple times, making four saves to keep the match scoreless. The Wolfpack generated two corner kicks and one shot in the opening half.
Redshirt senior Ade Taiwo created a chance early in the second half, receiving a throw in with his back to the goal and ripping a left-footed shot high of the crossbar from a difficult angle. Sophomore David Loera then had a close attempt in the 60th minute, hitting a shot from 20 yards that narrowly skipped past the left post.
Enstrom gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. Teammate Kristofer Konradsson whipped in a left-footed corner kick towards the near post. The Eagles’ leading goal scorer ran at it from an angle and nodded it through a slight deflection and just past Krapf’s outstretched arms.
NC State generated a very good chance to pull level in the 77th minute when Gabriel Machado sent a free kick into the penalty area that Christoph Schneuwly was able to get his head on, but the senior defender glanced his header just over the bar.
NC State returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when the team visits Longwood. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm from Longwood Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va.
