2015 women’s DI Top 100 player rankings
The turnover of top Division I women’s talent from 2014 to this year is nearly unprecedented. And it’s reflected in this year’s TopDrawerSoccer preseason Top 100.
Eight of last fall’s Top 10 players graduated and now play pro soccer either in the NWSL or abroad.
But premier talent remains. And this year’s preseason No. 1 player is West Virginia center back Kadeisha Buchanan. Voted the Young Player of the tournament at this summer’s Women's World Cup, the physical presence she provides at the back could turn the Mountaineers into title contenders.
Dynamic attackers Rose Lavelle (Wisconsin) and Makenzy Doniak (Virginia) will be hot on the heels of Buchanan this season, looking to lead their respective programs on deep runs in both league and tournament play. Both are rising stars in the college ranks and produce must-see moments on the field.
And while Buchanan certainly stakes a fair claim at best center back in the nation, Virginia’s Emily Sonnett, ranked at No. 4, is a senior ready to showcase her abilities for a Cavaliers squad that lost sensational talents in Morgan Brian and Danielle Colaprico.
Following in the footsteps of a player like Abby Wambach is never easy, but Savannah Jordan started off her college career in scintillating fashion at Wambach’s alma mater. The Florida forward checks in at No. 5 and her presence up front goes a long way in earning the Gators the preseason favorite tags in the always-competitive SEC. She's just one goal off Wambach's goal-scoring pace through the first two years of her college career.
Rounding out the preseason Top 10 are Janine Beckie (Texas Tech), Cari Roccaro (Notre Dame), Christen Westphal (Florida), Liana Salazar (Kansas) and Andi Sullivan (Stanford).
