HANOVER, N.H. – South Carolina became the first team to score a second-half goal against Bradley this season, but the Braves (4-0-2) remained unbeaten by holding on for a 2-2 draw against the Gamecocks (1-3-1) Sunday afternoon at the Dartmouth Classic.
The game was highlighted by game-tying penalty kicks late in each half. Playing in his 63rd career game, Bradley senior midfielder Bobby Smith pulled the Braves into a 1-1 tie in the 45th minute when he converted a penalty kick 28 seconds before halftime for his first career goal. But after reserve sophomore forward Ross Williams scored his first career goal in the 72nd minute to give Bradley a 2-1 lead, South Carolina knotted the score at 2-2 when Stephen Morrisey converted a penalty kick at 84:08.
The Gamecocks struck first in the 38th minute when J.P. Rafferty headed home a cross at the far post for his first goal of the year.
South Carolina is the first team to score more than one goal against Bradley this season and the first team to score after halftime against the Braves.
