5 seniors with a case for the USWNT squad
Cracking the roster for the full U.S. Women’s National Team can be arduous and seemingly impossible, whether a player competes at the college or professional level.
That doesn’t mean talent isn’t out there, especially in the elite echelons of women’s college soccer. After all, it’s been the supply line for every USWNT great over the last two decades.
Opportunities for young players, even those in college, seems to be the more difficult task, as former head coach Tom Sermanni found out the hard way. His experimentation with youth perhaps played a role in his dismissal earlier this year.
With the World Cup next summer in Canada, head coach Jill Ellis could still pull off a surprise or two with a current college player possibly cracking the roster. Below is a look at five seniors worthy of a long look. Note that Morgan Brian isn’t included, for obvious reasons, as she already seems like a regular call-up for the full team, but these are other dark horse candidates to make a push for a surprise spot in 2015.
