DOVER, Del. – Freshman Taylor Addison (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) etched her name in Delaware State University women’s soccer history Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium as the Hornets recorded their second straight win with a 3-0 shutout of Harcum College.

 

Addison’s first collegiate career hat trick is just the second in DSU history as Danielle Miller recorded three goals at Wilmington on Sept. 22, 2008.

 

“To have a hat trick in college really means a lot to me and for it to come so early in my career is exciting,” commented Addison.  “I looked for the space today and for my teammates to get the ball to me.  I know that when it does come to me, it’s natural to find the net and go for it, that’s my job.”

 

Addison also made historical marks in three other categories as she broke the single game shots record with eight.  The previous mark of seven was recorded by Savitre Bachoo during the 2006 season.  Addison’s four shots on goal and six points tie for the lead in each respective category.

 

The forward first found the net against the Bears in the 11^th minute as Harcum goalie Jena Cruz fumbled with the ball around the 18-yard-line.  Addison recovered and dribbled the ball to the open net to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

 

The two went one-on-one again to start the second half when Addison beat Cruz for the second goal of the game in the 49^th minute.

 

Just over ten minutes later, Delaware State took a corner kick from sophomore Lauren Price (Bayside, N.Y.) and turned it into a 3-0 lead.  Addison recovered a header from senior Jeanette Salgado (Bergenfield, N.J.) from about five yards out and shot it into the lower left corner of the net to complete the hat trick.  Price and Salgado were credited with assists on the play.

 

The Hornets outshot Harcum, 19-2, in the game, including a 12-0 advantage in the second period.  The Bears’ Samantha Freeman saw both shots for Harcum.

 

Sophomore Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) collected two saves in 83 minutes of play for DSU.

 

Cruz tallied five saves in 90 minutes for Harcum.

 

With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-8-1 on the year while the Bears fall to 5-5-0.
