Box Score
New Haven, CT – Earlier this afternoon, the women's soccer team took on the Chargers of New Haven in a Northeast-10 matchup. After falling behind by a goal in the early stages of the game, the Panthers fell into a deeper hole in the second and would not be able to close the gap, falling by a score of 3-0. With the loss, Adelphi moves to 7-4-2, 4-4-2 NE-10 while New Haven advances to 8-4-1, 5-4-1 NE-10.
The Charger's Marissa Garcia put the home squad on the board very early on. She netted her second goal of the year on a feed from teammate Ali Espanol in the 10th minute of the first half on just their second shot of the game.
The Panthers managed just three shots in the initial 45 minutes with two taken by Taylor Salmon and the other taken by Alison Gronenthal. However, each of the three were off the mark.
In the second, both teams ramped up their offense, taking a combine 21 shots with the Chargers having a plus one advantage. The Panther's Amanda Reverberi, Emily Masiello and Kaitlin Monteith all tested their luck in the early stages of the half, but were met with the same result; saves by Natasha Purchla.
New Haven responded with two more goals of their own in the 63rd and 84th minutes. Nicole Pacapelli registered the first of the two and was set up by Taylor Szyarto while Garcia notched her second of the game with help from Lucy Francisco.
Seven of Adelphi's 10 second half shots were on the mark, but none managed to get it by the keeper. The Brown and gold were outshot 15-13 but had a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
Sam Whitney made five saves in the loss while her counterpart made seven.
The Panthers return to action this Saturday, October 13 when they host the Hawks of St. Anselm College in front of the home crowd during Family Weekend. If you can't be at the game, be sure to follow along with live stats or watch via www.aupathers.tv.
