Box Score
Manchester, NH – The women's soccer team played the Hawks of Saint Anselm College to a 1-1 draw earlier this afternoon. An early 1-0 Panther lead held through the 84th minute until the hosts knotted the score. Despite two overtime periods, the deadlock was unable to be broken resulting in a tie. With the result, Adelphi's record now stands at 8-1-3, 6-1-3 NE-10 while the Hawks move to 5-6-2, 4-5-1 NE-10.
The Brown and Gold's lone goal came in the early stages of the game in the 19th minute. A corner attempt taken by Donna Liotine set up the scoring play. After sending in the kick, Olivia Czavar's shot was blocked, but the deflection was picked up by Melissa Duarte who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
The one goal cushion nearly lasted the entire length of regulation time, but a late push by Saint Anselm in the 84th minute paid off. Rachel Gillies set up teammate Kendra Bonczar who found the equalizer after beating Sam Whitney, making it a 1-1 game and eventually forcing overtime.
Despite an extra 20 minutes, either side was able to break the deadlock as they each recorded just a single shot during the two overtime periods.
Overall, the hosts led on shot attempts, 19-16 while the Panthers had a 5-0 advantage in corner attempts. Whitney made six saves in the tie.
