Adelphi Tops Le Moyne, 1-0
Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. – The women's soccer team took to the road against the Dolphins of Le Moyne College earlier this afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. It took nearly 85 minutes before the Panther's Aimee Goldstein netted the game winner to send the Brown and Gold back to Garden City with the 1-0 victory. With the win, the Panthers advance to 9-1-3, 7-1-3 NE-10 while the Dolphins 4-8-2, 2-7-2 NE-10.
Through the initial 45 minutes, the score remained knotted at 0-0. Of the Panther's four shots, three of them were on the mark but all were met with saves by Dolphin keeper, Tori Corsaro. A shot by Melissa Duarte and headers from Samantha Lanza and Michelle Brown were the only three attempts by both sides that were on goal. The hosts managed just two shots throughout the half; none of them were on target.
It wasn't until the 85th minute until the silence was broken. Aimee Goldstein put the Brown and Gold on top 1-0 after she found the back of the net on her first goal of the season and breaking a nine-game streak without a goal or assist. The score wound up being the eventual game winner. The play was set up by Duarte who was credited with the assist; her third of the season and third point over the last two games.
A late foul with less than 20 seconds left set Le Moyne up for a last second scoring opportunity, but the threat was thwarted by Adelphi's defense after Sam Whitney pounced on the loose ball in front of the net to close the books on the contest.
Shooting attempts through the end of the game were dead even at nine apiece. Adelphi held a 6-3 corner kick advantage while Whitney made four saves in the victory; all coming in the second half.
