Alex Quincey's Header Gives UC Riverside Women's Soccer 1-0 Win Over Visiting Pacific
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team bounced back from Thursday's 4-1 loss to UC Davis by blanking visiting Pacific 1-0 Sunday afternoon, evening the Highlanders' record at 6-6-1 and 1-1-0 in Big West play.
The team's combined for 43 shots on the day including 18 on goal, but the difference maker came off the head of freshman Alex Quincey.
A Tigers' foul in the 33rd minute of play gave the Highlanders a free kick in Pacific territory. Kayde Hensley took the kick, and Quincey extended all of her 6-0 frame, heading the ball past Tigers' keeper Tashia Long.
UC Riverside took that 1-0 lead with them into halftime, and withstood 16 second-half shots by the Tigers including five on goal. Freshman Sara Slaughter picked up the win for the Highlanders in goal as she made the first start of her collegiate career collecting nine saves in the process.
The loss dropped Pacific from the ranks of the unbeaten in conference as they evened their Big West mark at 1-1-1 and fell to 7-5-1 overall..
UC Riverside hits the road for its next three matches beginning with a Thursday, October 13 match at Cal Poly. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm PT.
