Angelosante gets first career goal, but Raptors fall at Stockton
GALLOWAY, N.J. (Oct. 12, 2011) – Freshman forward Katie Angelosante (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scored her first collegiate goal to give the Rutgers University-Camden women’s soccer team a halftime lead, but Richard Stockton College roared back with three second-half tallies for a 3-1 win in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 0-10-1 overall and 0-4 in the NJAC. The Ospreys improve to 7-5-2 and 3-3.
Angelosante’s goal came at 25:48 of the opening half, assisted by sophomore captain Sarah Kooistra (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional). It gave the Scarlet Raptors their first lead of the season.
The Ospreys countered with three second-half goals in a span of 4:22. Sophomore Jacque Becker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) tied the game at 1-1 on a feed from junior Kiera Hines (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) at 69:05. The Ospreys took the lead only 2:47 later when sophomore Anita Lato (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) poked in a rebound off a shot by junior Rachel Carlson (Mullica Township, NJ/Oakcrest) for her first career goal.
The Ospreys scored again 1:35 later as senior Brianna DeStefano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) again gathered a loose rebound and scored to set the final score. Sophomore Jessica Balnis (Dorothy, NJ/Buena) took the original shot for the assist.
Stockton sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Paul VI) made three saves for her seventh win of the season. Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) notched nine saves.
The Ospreys held a 16-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Richard Stockton plays a 1 p.m. NJAC game at Ramapo College on Saturday.
Rutgers-Camden also returns to action Saturday when it hosts William Paterson University in a 3 p.m. NJAC game that will serve as Senior Day for Raptors Samantha Sharp (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Heights) and Stephanie McHugh (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek).
