Arestivo and Mertz named All-Patriot League
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping lead the Mountain Hawks to their third straight Patriot League Tournament appearance, Lehigh women's soccer's leading scorers - junior Kayla Arestivo and senior Sabrina Mertz - each garnered All-Patriot League recognition, as announced on Monday. Arestivo was named to the first team while Mertz garnered second-team laurels. It marked the first-career All-League honors for both student-athletes.
Both Arestivo and Mertz lead the Mountain Hawks in goals (4), assists (2) and points (10). Arestivo has tallied five points over the last four games, helping the Mountain Hawks make a late-season surge into the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Arestivo tallied an assist in Lehigh's 4-1 win over archrival Lafayette and went on to score goals at Loyola and Holy Cross. She scored the equalizer in the 28th minute at Holy Cross this past Friday, helping set the stage for Sidonie Warnecker's game-winning goal in the 85th minute to help send the Mountain Hawks to the postseason. Earlier this season, Arestivo scored the game's only goal at four-time defending MAAC regular season champion Monmouth, tallying an assist vs. Temple and scoring a goal at Temple.
Meanwhile, Mertz has come on as the season has progressed, recording all 10 of her points over the last six contests of the regular season. Mertz scored the game's only goal in Lehigh's first Patriot League victory of the season at American, the Mountain Hawks' first-ever win at American. Two games later, Mertz broke out with a career-high five points vs. Lafayette (two goals, one assist). All five points came before the game was 20 minutes old. She added a goal at Loyola and dished an assist on the game-winning goal at Holy Cross.
After an 0-4 start to Patriot League play, the Mountain Hawks won three of their final five league contests to garner their third straight league tournament berth. Lehigh will travel to fourth-seeded Bucknell on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
