Arkansas tallies win No. 5 against Tulsa
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback Soccer team (5-0) was successfully able to keep its unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-1). The Razorbacks picked up the lone goal in the 66th minute of play from freshman Alexandra Fischer, the first goal of her career.
“We told the players to celebrate tonight because they have earned,” head coach Colby Hale said. “I thought tonight was a complete team effort. At the half we told our players to keep doing what they were doing and grinding out the game because we felt like something good was going to happen.”
In the first half of play, both teams were unable to reach the scoreboard. Arkansas outshot Tulsa 8-1 in the first half and amounted five corner kicks to Tulsa’s one.
In the second half, the Razorbacks put up seven shots on the period and found the back of the net in the 66th minute with the effort by Fischer. Senior Taylor Green started the action on the play by sending the ball into the box to Katherine Moore who placed the ball for Fischer. Freshman goal keeper Cameron Carter picked up her fifth win on the season as well.
“We just work really hard, that’s what we are all about,” Hailey Pescatore said. “It is really exciting to have a bunch of students and fans supporting us and helping us win the game.”
The Razorbacks who are ranked second in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America regional rankings continue to build on their record start. Tonight’s 1-0 win marks the fourth shutout in five games this season for Arkansas. Holding Tulsa scoreless on the night, the Razorbacks also equaled a program record allowing just two goals through the first five games. The last time Arkansas accomplished that feat was during the 2009 season.
The Razorbacks remain home for action on Sunday, Sept. 8, when they play host to the Nebraska Huskers. The match is schedule to being at 2 p.m. (CT) at Razorback Field. The match will be featured on television on CST.
