Bagot's Two Goals Seals Home Opener For SFBK
Brooklyn Heights, New York---The St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer team christened their new home at Brooklyn Bridge Park with a 3-1 victory over the Saint Peter's University Peacocks on Tuesday evening. It was home opener for the Terriers in their brand new soccer facility at Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The Terriers wasted no time in filling the score sheet as in the third minute junior forward Kevin Correa netted his third goal in as many games. Junior midfielder Cyril Coisne was able to send a long pass, from approximately forty yards out, that found the right foot of the reigning 2012 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year as he was able to chip the ball over Saint Peter’s goalkeeper, Carlos Suarez, to give the home eleven the early advantage.
For Correa, he is now tied for 14th place all-time in career goals with 14 and moves into sole possession of 16th place in career points with 31. Coisne tallied his first career assist in the process.
Saint Peter’s notched their first goal of the season in the 36th minute off the foot of Omar Crowl. Crowl was able to place a well-timed chip over the outstretched arms of junior goalkeeper Jack Binks. The play was setup by Marcel Maddee’ corner kick from the left side of the field that found Crowl in the box to even the score at one.
Both teams picked up the intensity in the second half of action and played even for nearly twenty minutes before the Terriers struck again. In the 64th minute of the contest, senior midfielder John Johansson was able to locate senior forward Gabriel Bagot racing on goal. Suarez of Saint Peter’s tried to stop the breakaway chance but Bagot was able to dribble past the lunging netminder and have a clear path to the goal.
For Bagot, it was his first of the season while it was also the 18th of his career. Johansson was credited with the assist, the fifth of his career. The senior duo weren’t finished. In the 81st minute of play, Johansson crossed the ball off a corner kick from the left side of the field that was played in the box by Bagot. Bagot leaped high in the air and headed past a diving Suarez to give St. Francis Brooklyn the 3-1 lead and ultimately their first victory in their new home.
For the match, both teams recorded 13 shots with seven of those being on target. Binks came up huge in goal for the Terriers, recording his second Terrier victory and new career high with six saves. Suarez was credited with four saves for the Peacocks.
