Beavers, Mean Green Battle To Scoreless Tie
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team played undefeated North Texas to a 0-0, double-overtime draw on Friday night before a crowd of 578 at Lorenz Field.
It was the third overtime game in four starts for the Beavers (1-1-2). They outshot the Mean Green (4-0-1) 3-0 in the overtimes but could not break through, despite playing the final 4:16 a player up after UNT defender Rachel Holden received a red card.
OSU outshot North Texas 16-9 overall and 13-9 in regulation. UNT keeper Brooke Bradley had six of her seven saves in the second half and overtime, when OSU outshot the visitors 12-5.
Junior forward Nikki Faris had five shots overall and three on goal for the Beavers. Junior keeper Bella Geist had three saves in recording her ninth career clean sheet, tying her with Sammy Jo Prudhomme (2012-13) for fourth on OSU's all-time list.
Each team had four shots and one corner kick in an evenly-played first half. Geist had three saves, including a diving stop to deny a close-in header from Taylor Torres in the 28th minute.
North Texas had outscored its opponents 12-2 in defeating Incarnate Word, Oral Roberts, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian in its first four games.
OSU concludes its season-opening, five-game homestand against Boise State at 1 p.m., Sunday. The Beavers are 1-0-1 all-time against the Broncos, who they last played in 2007.
