Beavers Top Aztecs 4-0
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 19 Oregon State men’s soccer team scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes to take down San Diego State 4-0 Saturday afternoon in San Diego, Calif.
Gloire Amanda found the net twice in the contest, bringing his season total to 15 goals, moving him into a tie for fifth on Oregon State’s single-season list.
Sofiane Djeffal finished with a goal and two assists, while Tyrone Mondi also found the net. Adrian Crespo and Joel Walker ended the contest with two assists apiece.
As a team, the Beavers end the regular season with a record of 9-4.
Oregon State jumped in front right from the start, as a nice piece of build-up play left Walker on the left side of the box. The senior fed Djeffal, who finished from seven yards out to give the Beavers an early lead.
OSU nearly added a second in the 17th minute, when Amanda found himself in on goal on a fast-breaking counter attack, but the Aztec keeper was quick off his line to eliminate the threat. Amanda made no mistake on his chance moments later, as he hammered one home off of a beautiful curling ball from Crespo.
Mondi netted the Beavers’ third in the 21st, scoring from a tight angle shortly after an Oregon State corner kick.
Amanda created two more chances before the break, but both were wide, as the Beavers headed to the break in front 3-0.
It looked like Oregon State might score a fourth early in the second half, as the team created sustained possession in the attacking third. Mondi nearly netted his second in the 63rd, smashing one just wide of the post.
Amanda tacked on his second in the 80th, converting from point-blank range after a give-and-go between Djeffal and Walker created space for a cross.
As a team, the Beavers out-shot the Aztecs 18-9. Roman Gabriel recorded his first career clean sheet, helping OSU hold a shutout for the sixth time this season.
Oregon State will now await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which will take place Monday morning.
