Berry Finds The Net In Second Half; Defeats Lady Scots 1-0
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- In the final home game of the regular season, the Lady Scots soccer team faced off with Berry College. For seniors Jane Brandon, Hannah Brown, Kasey Craft, and Dana Streufert, a 4-year experience of playing soccer on Scotland Yard came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the visiting Lady Vikings. Berry’s Rachel Leroy was able to find the back of the net in the 56th minute of play, and the Vikings maintained that same lead for the remainder of the match.
Berry’s record is now 11-3-1 while Covenant’s drops to 8-8-2, remaining 6-1-1 in the Great South.
In the first half, Berry outshot Covenant 3 to 1, but the Lady Scots held an advantage on restarts as they had 5 corner kicks to Berry’s 2. After the break, Teagan Wood and Katelyn Newsome missed on two scoring chances before Leroy was able to break the tie.
Berry outshot Covenant 12-8 for the game with a 5-2 edge on shots that went on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Bales recorded 4 saves in the game.
Covenant’s next competition is the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19. Opponents and times are yet to be announced.
