Best Start In Program History
September 18, 2016
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas' 2-1 victory over Lipscomb (6-3-1) on Sunday afternoon tied an important milestone: Best start in program history.
With its ninth win this season, the Razorbacks (9-1-0, 2-0-0) tied the mark set by the team in 2008 and represents the best 10-game span in head coach Colby Hale's tenure at Arkansas.
“Lipscomb’s a good team and I’m not sure the score line reflected how well we played,” head coach Colby Hale said. “I was pleased with our effort for 90 minutes. Sunday games are sometimes about character and grind as much as they are about anything else. This group has those without question. We may have made the last minute or two a little more eventful than we needed, but overall a very good weekend. We have some things we will continue to develop this week and prepare for a good Alabama team on Thursday.”
Both teams were scoreless in the first half until junior defender Hannah Neece's corner kick got past Lipscomb goalkeeper Anna Buhigas in the 34th minute.
Junior defender Jessi Hartzler would later score her fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute of play assisted by senior forward Katie Moore.
Hartzler has now scored a goal in three consecutive games and is second on the team in goals (5) and points (11) as well as fourth in shots (14) and shots on goal (7).
Goalkeeper Cameron Carter improved to 9-1 on the season, logging three saves on the contest.
Bison freshman forward Olivia Doak was held scoreless in the match, but earned an assist on senior forward Alesondra Colbert's goal in the 87th minute. Doak currently leads Lipscomb in goals (6) and points (13).
Lipscomb was Arkansas' final non-conference match this season. The Razorbacks' final nine games will come against Southeastern Conference opponents leading into the SEC Tournament on Oct. 31 at Orange Beach, Alabama.
Arkansas will face Alabama on Sept. 22 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Razorbacks are 2-0-1 against the Crimson Tide during Hale's tenure.
