Binghamton Stuns Saints in Overtime
Siena Women’s Soccer controlled play throughout, but Michele Galvin’s golden goal in the 98th minute was the difference as Binghamton stunned the Saints 1-0 in Vestal. Siena out-shot the Bearcats 16-5 in the match.
Although they had limited opportunities throughout, Binghamton (3-1-2) had the two best chances within the final 10 minutes. With just 48 seconds remaining in regulation the Bearcats had a goal waived off for offsides, but with 2:51 remaining in the first overtime they broke the deadlock.
Ryan Reilly played a ball just inside the top of the box to Galvin who lofted the winner under the crossbar. With the victory, Binghamton matched its win total from all of last season with its three victories to date all coming by identical 1-0 scores over MAAC foes Siena (1-3-2), Manhattan and Niagara.
Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Dorado made one save for the Saints which were playing their second of three consecutive America East opponents, and fourth in their first six matches. Junior striker Kelsey Horst led all Siena players with three shots, while five others attempted two apiece for the Saints which have suffered three straight hard fought one-goal defeats.
Katie Hatziyianis made six saves in goal to record for the shutout for the Bearcats which improved to 6-0-1 all-time against Siena in Vestal.
The Saints continue their busy week which features three matches in six days, when they head to Vermont Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
