Bison Blanked by Cal
WAIPAHU, HAWAI'I - California scored four first half goals en route to a 7-0 win over the North Dakota State soccer team on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex. The Bison fall to 1-1 on the season, while Cal improves to 2-1 overall.
Neither team could gather much momentum in the opening 15 minutes, but Cal broke through with the game's first score in the 17th minute on a Katie Benz goal. Benz struck again less than five minutes later to increase Cal's lead to 2-0.
Cal made it 3-0 in the 35th minute on a goal from Mekenna DeBack. NDSU recorded its first shot in the 42nd minute, but sophomore Katie Tallas' shot went wide. Kory Lamet scored for Cal with six seconds remaining in the half to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bears.
Miranda White added to Cal's tally in the 56th minute. After a red card was issued to Brooklyn Dyce in the 64th minute, the Bison played the remainder of the game with 10 players on the field.
White struck again in the 66th minute and DeBack added her second goal in the 83rd minute for the Bears.
The Bears outshot the Bison, 19-3, and tallied seven corner kicks to NDSU's zero.
Senior goalie Kalani Bertsch played the opening 45 minutes and made three saves. Sophomore Kathy Kelsey played in goal the second half and made two stops.
NDSU continues action in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi tournament Saturday, Aug. 27 against host Hawai'i at 7 p.m. Hawaiian Time (12 a.m. Central).
