Bison Shut Out Montana, 4-0
MISSOULA, Mont. - Four different players scored goals as the North Dakota State soccer team shut out Montana, 4-0, in the Nike Montana Cup on Friday, Sept. 9 for its third straight win. With the victory, the Bison improve to 4-1 overall and Montana falls to 3-2.
Sophomore Katie Tallas put the Bison on the board early, chipping the ball over goalie Kristen Hoon's head four minutes and 40 seconds into the game. Junior Holly Christian assisted on Tallas' second goal of the year.
The Bison continued to pressure the Grizzly goal and senior Morgan DeMike added a second goal at the 14:10 mark. DeMike took a one-touch shot for her third goal of the season after a cross from freshman Tristyn Walczak.
Senior goalie Kalani Bertsch made one save in the first half as the Bison took a 2-0 lead into the break.
After a shot and save from each team, senior Katie Luce notched her first goal of the year in the 62nd minute, one-timing a cleared corner kick from 25 yards out.
Bertsch made two more saves on shots from Erin Craig and Ashley Tombelaine before senior Michelle Gaffaney rounded out the Bison scoring in the 87th minute. Gaffaney scored off a corner kick from senior Aubrey Bot.
The Bison outshot the Grizzlies, 10-7, and tallied five corner kicks to Montana's three. Bertsch finished the game with four saves and notched the third shutout of the season and 13th of her career.
NDSU is back in action at the Nike Montana Cup on Sunday, Sept. 11 to take on Idaho at 11:30 a.m. Central.
